Robert Bigelow is an interesting character. He funded the NIDS, which was not only a civilian continuation of The Aviary but also put them in charge of black triangle reports and Skinwalker Ranch. Now some intriguing news has emerged suggesting he is directing some of his considerable funds MUFON's way:
Billionaire real estate investor and entrepreneur Robert Bigelow of Las Vegas is now betting his bucks on MUFON to find valuable new knowledge about alien propulsion systems.
Bigelow, who has long been known to give millions of dollars to fund serious UFO research, has just concluded a deal with MUFON whereby he will supply this organization with whatever it needs to be able to go out and bring back the hard evidence, not only to document the reality of UFOs interacting with us, but most importantly to gather the kind of information that will truly advance scientific understanding of this phenomenon.
...
Now for the first time MUFON's members are going to be paid to do their work. MUFON's agreement with Bigelow is to train and qualify a special rapid response team of Field Investigators who can be deployed within 24 hours to the scene of a major UFO event, the kind designated as Category 2 or 3 in the classification system devised by legendary UFO researcher Jacques Vallee. These are the rarer cases where either physical traces are left or physiological effects are caused in the witness.
Bigelow has hired 50 top-flight scientists to assist MUFON in this endeavor who will function as consultants and do expensive lab analysis of alien materials gathered at the location of a UFO event.
...
Bigelow who has been known to keep his findings on the UFO subject secret has agreed per his contract with MUFON to hold nothing back from this organization that is revealed in the BAASS lab analysis of materials supplied by MUFON.

Hat tip
I am unsure how to take the news. Most of me thinks this is great and could just be exactly what we need to help apply the best science toa question that does need the best investigation money can by. Then a small cynical part of me directs my attention to Skinwalker Ranch where they did everything they could and any definitive evidence of strange phenomena proved elusive, if we are being t
old the truth. Which is where the tiny conspiracy monkey who lives in the back of my mind raises his head. Bigelow has close ties to military intelligence and has direct control over the hard science end of this new deal, if something explosive is discovered (especially if it has military or technological impact) will we ever hear about it? So I have my fingers crossed that this could be a real breakthrough but I will also be keeping half an eye on this in case something shady is going on.
Colonel John Alexander yanks some chains
Col John Alexander is ex-Aviary and was a member of the NIDS before they shut up shop (and didn't he appear in the Men Who Stare at Goats) and is a non-lethal weapons expert who is very interested in UFOs (as are a lot of The Aviary and other colleagues). Here he speaks out on reverse-engineered UFOs:
For many years the proponents of the Alien Reproduction Vehicle (ARV) have suggested that some unidentified agency (THEY) has had control over a crashed UFO and were successful in reverse engineering that craft. According to this theory, THEY have controlled all access to information pertaining to ARV. Select versions of this story suggest that some, but not all, former presidents of the United States of America, have been allowed to have this knowledge. Exactly who makes the decisions about access to the information is never articulated, but the proponents are convinced that THEY exist. Speculation regarding control runs from some deep black governmental agency, to private industrial organizations, or even extra-governmental bodies which are totally devoid of oversight from either the Executive or Legislative branches of government.
Those not steeped in UFO conspiracy theory may not be aware that there exists a substantial body of published information that state that THEY have gained the scientific knowledge necessary to provide limitless energy at very low cost. Ostensibly, that advance was derived from the UFO crash at Roswell in 1947. According to this legend, once successfully reverse engineered, THEY intentionally blocked access to this knowledge in order to literally take over the world through domination of the macro socio-economic structures. Support for these theories go far beyond a few loose nuts and gain credibility through commentary by higly credentialed persons, such as a former Canadian Minister of Defense, active and retired military officers, and experienced researchers.
The evidence provided to support their conclusions of the existence of ARV involve a few, hard to substantiate, eye-witness accounts, and some low-quality videotape of questionable origin that purports to show an object morphing in an unusual manner. These same rumors suggest that ARV is housed at Area 51, or S-4 which are under US Government control in Southern Nevada.
...
While it is said that it is impossible to prove a negative, the current economic meltdown comes about as close to proving that ARV does not exist as any argument could. The only alternative is to believe that THEY are prepared to allow national and global financial suicide, just to keep their secret. My ten trillion dollar challenge is for anyone to explain why that amount of money was willfully destroyed, if an answer was available.
It is funny, because he isn't saying much, while at the same time potentially saying an awful lot to those interested in reading between the lines looking for a conspiracy (the obvious one being that the development of such a vehicle and energy source may be kept in reserve to be deployed after the collapse of the economy where THEY could sweep up and move THEIR plans on to the next stage).
Whatever you think of what he says there he is an intriguing character and I don't think anyone has every really got to the bottom of his network of interests and motivations - personally I suspect it might be part of the military's interest in identifying one (or more) natural phenomena that cause some UFO sightings, with an eye to weaponising them. But that is just me - different people will come to other conclusions (like he is just milking the interest in fringe science and drops a bit of chain yanking in to keep his profile high) - some of them not being mutually exclusive!!
